Counselling: Postgraduate Students

Postgrad students

Postgraduate Student Support at Wintec

Have you ...

(a)  Studied quite recently at any educational institution (in the last 2 years)?

Welcome back or welcome to Wintec !!!  You probably have a reasonable knowledge of research technology and study skills.  However, please do consider attending any courses offered and do direct questions to your Tutors and other Wintec staff throughout your studies.

or

(b)  Are you returning to study (it has 2 years+ since you studied)?

Welcome to Wintec !!!  It can take some time to get into study mode again, as many things change over time.  It is strongly recommended that you ...

  • Attend any courses that are offered to assist you in catching up with the latest research technology and study techniques and tools.
  • Quickly read through all the pages (except the Wintec Staff page) in this Library Guide.  There are some video clips and links which might assist in filling in your knowledge from last time you studied.
  • Ask questions!  Sometimes information is communicated quite quickly, so do ask questions when things are not clear to you.

Thesis

Do you need to find a Thesis?

Another student's or researcher's Thesis (Masters or Phd) may give you ideas for your own research and ensure you are producing unique research which fills gaps in the literature.

  • Print theses - these are generally held by the institutional Library where the student completed their research.  We are generally unable to interloan a copy for you, as there are very few print copies available and most libraries will only allow viewing of theses in their building so they are not lost.
  • Online theses - there is greater access to online theses via various websites.  Many New Zealand educational institutions require their students to upload a full copy and this is freely accessible on their website or via other websites which collate theses.

Where do I find an online thesis (NZ and international)?

NZ theses can be found at the NZ Research website:  http://nzresearch.org.nz/

Overseas theses can be found at the OAIster website:  http://oaister.worldcat.org/
