A new edition of the APA Publication Manual is coming!
The American Psychological Association (APA) is publishing a new version of its Publication Manual in October 2019. This means there will be some changes to the way APA referencing is done. Don't worry! For the most part referencing has been made simpler, and the Library is here to help you get your head around the changes.
When to start using APA 7th
The Library recommends that all students, staff, and researchers reference according to the new 7th edition of the Publication Manual from 2020. We will be updating our LibGuide to reflect the changes in time for Semester 1 2020, and print copies of the new Publication Manual will be available in the Library from late 2019.
If you're using a reference manager to store and manage your references (e.g., Zotero or EndNote), you'll need to make sure it's updated/you download the APA 7th referencing style.
For graduate/postgraduate students
If you're writing a thesis or dissertation, ask your supervisor or department whether you should keep using APA 6th or switch to the 7th edition. If you're sticking with 6th, the Library will continue to provide assistance.
For more info about the 7th edition, see the APA blog or contact your Liaison Librarian with any questions.
