Linking to articles

How to link to articles and other media within databases

Why link?

Why link?

Linking is preferable to downloading full text because:

  • it avoids copyright violation
  • it gives you the latest version
  • it gives you a permanent URL

Why not use the browser's URL?

The URL that you see at the top of a database page is often temporary, and will only be valid for your session. If someone else tries to use it an hour later or a week later, it is unlikely to work, and you will encounter an error message.

If you need to link to an article in Moodle, you will need to use a permanent URL.

If you need to link to a database, then you will need to right-click on the link on the database page. Do not use the URL at the top of the webpage.
