eReserve Plus

A introductory guide on how to use and integrate eReserve Plus

What is eReserve Plus?

eReserve Plus provides the most appropriate resources for ākonga at the time and place they need them. Integrated with Moodle, it acts as a bibliography that students can click on to get direct access to their readings.

This guide will show you how to use eReserve Plus and how to integrate it with your Moodle course.

What are the benefits of using eReserve Plus?

Using eReserve has many benefits for those who use it.

  • Resources are embedded directly into course content, increasing ākonga engagement with learning material.
  • Kaiako can track student engagement with the resources they choose to provide, how many ākonga access them, and how often they access them. This gives us useful statistics to measure the value of our investments in the resources, as well as identify those who don’t engage and may therefore be at risk of failing their courses.
  • Kaiako can also engage with ākonga on the resources by adding notes. For example, to instruct students what to do or which pages to read in a resource.
  • eReserve will also provide a report that can be sent to Copyright NZ, ensuring we do not breach copyright and that creators are fairly paid for their efforts. This greatly reduces the workload of previous years.

See the instructions below for how to set up eReserve in your Moodle course.

Help! eReserve says my course reading needs further assessment

Once a reading has been added, eReserve runs a check. If all is okay, it is immediately uploaded to your list.

If it's not okay, eReserve will tell you the reading needs further assessment. Usually, this means:

  • the library already has a later edition in the catalogue
  • the metadata needs completing
  • a better source link is required
  • a check needs to happen to ensure the reading meets with copyright regulations. Your Liaison Librarian and/or QAU will check it and provide an appropriate copy.
