Follow the below formats for television shows and episodes from the ETV database.

Referencing a television series

When referencing a TV series, use the executive producer(s) as the author. When the series spans multiple years, separate the years with an en dash (–), or replace the second year with the word "present" if the series is still airing. For example:

Producer, A., Producer, B., & Producer, C. (Executive producers). (Date range). Title of series in italic sentence case [TV series]. Production Company.

Fellowes, J., Neame, G., & Eaton, R. (Executive producers). (2010–2015). Downton abbey [TV series]. ITV Studios.

Referencing a television series episode that has an episode title

When referencing an episode of a TV series, include the writer(s) and director of the episode and note their roles in parentheses. Provide the series/season and episode number after the title in parentheses. For example:

Writer, A. (Writer), & Director, A. (Director). (Date). Title of episode in sentence case (Series/Season number, Episode number) [TV series episode]. In Producer, A (Executive Producer), Title of series in italic sentence case. Production Company.

Moran, D. (Writer), Linehan, G. (Writer & Director), & Wood, N. (Director). (2000). Cooking the books (Series 1, Episode 1) [TV series episode]. In W. Burdett-Coutts (Executive producer), Black books. Big Talk.

Referencing a television series episode that doesn't have an episode title

When referencing an episode of a TV series, include the writer(s) and director of the episode if both are available, and note their roles in parentheses. Use the title of the series in the title position, and provide the series/season and episode number after the title in parentheses. For example:

Writer, A. (Writer), & Director, A. (Director). (Date). Title of series in sentence case (Series/Season number, Episode number) [TV series episode].  Production Company.

Cvitanovich, J. (Director). (2015). Rural delivery (Series 11, Episode 23) [TV series episode]. Showdown Productions.
