Note
Images from the below databases are referenced no differently than normal images. However, some of the information is difficult to locate or requires additional information as a medical resource, so examples have been provided for you.
To reference images from the internet, check Images and Tables in the main APA Guide.
To reference an online map (i.e. Google maps), see Referencing online maps in the main APA guide.

SMART Imagebase

Images and videos from SMART Imagebase are referenced in the same way. The only thing which is different is the format descriptor.

Images from Clinical Key

Images from Clinical Key are referenced according to what type of book they are in. Click on the links below to see expanded examples of how to reference the following in the main APA guide:

The below examples are of an image from a chapter in an edited book from Clinical Key. The image has a named author, so is also a secondary citation.

Where to find information
Locating referencing information in Clinical Key can be a challenge. The best way to do this is to click "Add to bookshelf" on the book landing page, and then "View in bookshelf".
To use the citation tool when viewing the book in bookshelf, click the "..." at the top left beside the book title and then "Citation".
Author: Use the name(s) beneath the chapter title. If there are none, use the names given in the citation tool.
Date: Refer to the citation tool. Alternatively, use the most recent date on the book landing page, beneath the title.
Chapter title: If unsure, refer to the contents list. You do not need to include chapter numbers.
Editors: Refer to the citation tool
Book title: See the top of book landing page or the citation tool. Check for subtitles. If you are unsure, check the book image, front matter pages, or in the library catalogue.
Edition number: Refer to the citation tool
Page range: See the bottom right corner of the screen. You must "view in bookshelf" to see this.
Publisher: Refer to the citation tool. You do not need to include words like "Ltd/Limited".

Additional formatting information
Figure number: Number your figures according to their appearance in your assignment. Do not use figure numbers given in the source.
Image caption: Use the image caption given in the source. If none is provided, create your own. See Referencing an image with no title in the main APA guide for how to do this.

Note
The citation function in Clinical Key is not always accurate. Use it as a starting point, but always check if your book has different authors for different chapters (chapter in an edited book) before referencing. If you can't tell or have trouble, find a physical copy to check.
If you are referencing multiple images from the same book or book chapter, and they have the same author and/or date, see How do I reference multiple works by the same author? in the main APA guide.

Images from MedPix

Images from MedPix are referenced in the same way as images from SMART Imagebase.
