Referencing regulations, rules and orders

  • When referencing government legislation, the title of the legislation is used in place of the author.
  • No part of the reference list entry is italicised.
  • The date is part of the title and is not preceded by a comma.

In-text citations
In text, use the title of the regulation. You will also need to note the clause or regulation from which you have taken information. Use the abbreviation "reg" and "regs" for regulation and regulations.

To reference a specific rule, use the abbreviation “r” and “rr” for rule and rules.

When referencing an an order, use the abbreviation “cl” and “cls” for clause and clauses.
